Soft skills workshop through applied improvisation
facilitated by Bogdan Grigore · founder & lead facilitator Improvizatie.ro
Listening, empathy, feedback, nonverbal communication: reading about them on slides is pointless if you do not live them. Improvisation trains them through play, and the debrief connects them to real situations at the office. Facilitated by Bogdan Grigore, since 2008.

Who it is for
- Development programmes and internal academies that want practical modules, not just theory on slides.
- Employees at the start of their career who are forming their first communication habits at work.
- Teams that receive feedback rarely or awkwardly and want to practise it in a healthy way.
- People who work often with colleagues from other departments, where nonverbal communication matters as much as the message.
- Companies running onboarding that want new employees to get to know each other quickly.
- Internal mentoring programmes, as a practical supplement to 1:1 sessions.

What actually happens
- Positive Gossip (10 minutes): trains giving and receiving positive feedback. In small groups, each person sits with their back to colleagues and is "gossiped" about only in positive terms, as if they were not present.
- Greeting with 4 Attitudes (5 minutes): trains awareness of your own emotional state and its impact on communication. Participants greet colleagues four times, imagining a different state each time, from grumpy to a great day.
- Mirror (10 minutes): trains nonverbal attention and empathy. In pairs, one makes slow movements, the other reflects them as faithfully as possible, like a mirror; on cue, the roles switch without stopping the movement.
What a session looks like
| Duration | Number of participants | Space required | Online or in person | What you get afterwards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 hours (standard format); for long-term programmes, sessions are repeated periodically | from a small group (4-8) to an internal academy cohort (up to 12, the reference group) | a room clear of furniture, where people can move | both, at the same price | professional photos + debrief linked to real communication situations in the team |

What it is NOT
- It is not a communication course on slides: skills are practised, not memorised.
- It is not comedy theatre: no one is judged on how funny they are.
- It is not group therapy: feedback stays at the level of observable behaviour, not personal analysis.
- It does not produce lasting results from a single session, which is why the subscription format exists.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a soft skills programme through improvisation?
The standard format is a 2-hour session. For sustained development, these skills are trained better in sessions repeated periodically than in a single long day.
Can it be integrated into an onboarding programme?
Yes. It is an efficient way for new employees to get to know each other quickly and to practise listening and feedback from the start, not just to read about company values.
Does it work for technical teams, not just HR or sales?
Yes. Listening, empathy and feedback are universal behaviours, and the exercises do not require a specific business context, just presence and willingness to play.
How is it different from classic communication training?
Classic training explains what active listening is. Improvisation makes you practise it in real time, with a partner, without a script, and the debrief immediately links what happened to behaviour at the office.
Is it suitable for an internal employee development academy?
Yes, it is one of the most common formats: repeated 2-hour modules, integrated into a broader programme for developing individual skills.
